Demand Accountability for Your Measure K Funds

Recently, our Association distributed a mailer to Rio Vista residents to inform them that none of the Measure K funds have been allocated to improving fire department response times, increasing staffing, or purchasing critical emergency medical equipment. These mailers were created and distributed with the full and unwavering support of 100% of our members, as well as the full support of our parent organization, the Solano Napa County Professional Firefighters, Local 1186.

It is important to note that both the Rio Vista Professional Firefighters Association and Solano Napa County Professional Firefighters, Local 1186 proudly endorsed Measure K during the November election. We believed then—as we do now—that Measure K presented an opportunity to address long-standing public safety gaps in our city. We supported the measure in good faith, based on the City's public statements that the revenue would be used to improve Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

We do not and will not accept having our names, reputations, and endorsements used to perpetuate a lie—yet that is exactly what is happening when the City fails to use Measure K funds in the way residents were led to believe they would be used. This misrepresentation is both misleading and dangerous. The citizens of Rio Vista made it abundantly clear that public safety is their top priority. When the City redirects $2.5 million to road improvement projects without dedicating even a single additional dollar toward fire protection or emergency medical response, it is not only breaking faith with the public—it is putting lives at risk.

We urge the City to correct course immediately. Our firefighters remain committed to protecting this community with professionalism, integrity, and pride. We expect the same level of commitment from the City’s leadership. It is time to honor the promises made to the people of Rio Vista and allocate Measure K funds accordingly to strengthen public safety and emergency response.

We would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and further discuss how we can work together to realign the City’s actions with the intent of the voters and the needs of our community.
